The bussing problem still continues to be an issue that l believe should be solved before negotiations as it is not part of our Contract. The company just keeps on picking us up earlier and earlier so that we can arrive at the Steepbank Complex up to 45mins before our shift start! We all know that this is being done so that they can accomodate "Hot change" which as l understand is being grieved by the Union. Suncor is just trying to get us used to arriving early, treating this as a condition of employment. Wrong!
This isn't just treating the Mine Ops. employees with a lack of respect, it is most likely illegal under the Labour Standards Act( Hours of work) if there is any in Alberta! The company is in fact "stealing" time from its employees and will continue until we put a stop to it.
My suggestion is that we take legal action against the company by boycotting all offsite activities(ie. safety meetings, training,etc.) thus forcing Suncor to do them onsite while you are on shift. For those of you worried about giving up your precious 4hrs OT, Suncor would be forced to call in more overtime coverage for the onsite meetings.
