What is a Union?

A union is a group of workers who come together to negotiate the terms of employment with an employer. Forming a union is a right guaranteed in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, the most important law in Canada – it’s called Freedom of Association. The terms of employment for each type of job are agreed upon in contract negotiations and written down for everyone to see. All workers doing the same job will be treated equally.
